The gait belt should only be used as an aid for transferring or walking a patient. As a standard procedure with all equipment in any facility, please inspect the belt prior to every use. Only use the belt on a patient or resident when appropriate. If the patient or resident has had a recent surgery, please consult their physician for permission prior to using this belt on the patient. This belt should never be used as any type of restraining device on a patient. Never use the belt as a form of a seat belt either in a vehicle or in a chair.
Sturdy belt My mother was recently released from the hospital and now has in home physical therapy. Her physical therapist recommended I purchase a gait belt to use when she goes up and down stairs and when she is tired. I purchased this belt based on price and design. It is a very sturdy, easy to us belt. The buckle is easy to use and does not slip when in use. I would purchase this same belt again and would recommend it to others.
Nice to have just in case….. Bought this item for use now that my mom needs assistance with getting up from her wheelchair or bed.
Height and weight matter Because of the height and weight of the person that needs this belt, I would have chosen I stronger one. I have had no problems with keeping him secure, but it does require more strength from me than other belts. For a younger adult, this belt would be perfectly adequate. For a 6 ft 180 lb man, choose a heftier belt!
