Buy a better reacher This is one of the worst grabbers I have ever used. It’s flimsy with a shape on the pick up end that makes it impossible to slide under a flat item, like a magazine or piece of mail, to pick it up. The claws also tend to pass each other because the alignment is so loose. There is also a small hard nub on the corner of the handle that pokes the side of your hand when you are trying to use it. Good design + strong construction = good value. It’s worth spending a little more to get a product that is designed and constructed well enough to do what it claims. This is strong enough to pick up as heavy an object as the average person can handle with one hand. The only requirement seems to be that it fits between the 3 1/2″ open jaw space. Highly recommend this for anyone who has had hip surgery/has difficulty bending and picking up. The grabber, (this kind in particular, because there are many different kinds out there), has come in very handy for my father. He already had a couple, but needed more after his hip surgery.
