This is tricky to use. There’s a learning curve to use it effectively. I have used the sock doffer a number of times to remove my compression knee-highs. The tricky part is the last part of the process – removing sock from ankle/foot. The doffer must be in exactly the right position, as must your foot (toes pointed down or up) when doffing (taking off) the sock. This is not equipment that can be used by another person to doff socks while socks are on patient. It only works when being used by the patient. If you’re willing to work with this equipment for…

Better to do it yourself I found this item very uncomfortable to use, and curvature not comfortable on my ankle and heel. While tinkering in the garage, decided to try making my own out of a scrap piece of Kydex. Works great. Slight curve provides sufficient rigidity, folded end provides “handle” for ease of pushing. Pull sock top down as far as you can without undue strain, tool slips easily between leg and lower part of sock, push tip just below heel, easily leverages sock over heel for quick removal.
