On the first night of Chanukah, my mother gave to me
A menorah burning bright for all to see!
Sung to the tune and rhythm of the popular “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” this 8×8 paperback introduces young readers to the traditions of Chanukah. Gifts of latkes, gelt, dreidels, donuts, and much more celebrate this very special holiday! Back matter and a glossary explain the history and traditions of Chanukah.
Four Stars Nice book.
On the First Night of Chanukah On the First Night of Chanukah tells how Jewish families celebrate the holiday of Chanukah with gifts and family get togethers. This is a great book to introduce multicultural differences using a the rhyme of a familiar poem.
My son sang along I guess some might not like that the Channukah traditional objects are set to the song “Twelve Nights of Christmas” but my non-Jewish husband and me (I am Jewish) found it adorable. We sang along with our son who was 2 1/2 last Channukah and he really enjoyed it. He even would sing “FIVE GOLDEN GELT” in the right tune! It doesnt tell the story of Channukah but it shows family togetherness and all the typical holiday objects/symbols. Enjoyable.
