Medela’s supplemental nursing system, known as our SNS, is a uniquely designed feeding tube device and baby feeding system made to provide long-term supplemental feedings at the breast. When used consistently over days and/or weeks, a hormonal mechanism is triggered that causes milk production. In addition to inducing lactation in mothers with low milk supply or other nursing challenges, the SNS can be used to assist babies who are or have been diagnosed with:
Premature Special needs Latching difficulties
As both a lactation aid feeding tube and a nursing trainer, the SNS is ideal for mothers needing to supplement their feedings with their baby at the breast. Designed to stimulate breast milk supply while also motivating babies who are learning to nurse, the SNS serves several important purposes – and can even provide additional milk while breastfeeding to babies who need it most, such as premature babies, infants with special needs and cardiac defects, and babies experiencing low weight gain.

Medela’s supplemental nursing system is intended for long-term supplemental feedings and uses gravity to encourage the flow of breast milk from its container to your baby. Moms seeking a disposable, short-term solution may benefit from our Starter SNS™ (sold separately), which is a lactation aid feeding tube and baby feeding system intended for 24-hour use when short-term assistance is needed. As with every Medela product, our SNS is designed with you and your baby in mind so you can feed your little one with breast milk for as long as you choose.

Thank you Medela!!! Breastfeeding relationship had a REALLY rough start. My daughter had nipple confusion because i gave her bottles for fear of starving her when she wouldnt latch after i took her home. I was exclusively pumping for 3 months and my supply dropped to almost nothing over night. I desperately wanted to bf so i kept trying to get my daughter to nurse, and she adamantly refused. Because my flow wasnt what she was used to or okay with. I did a lot of research into everything we were doing wrong and…
Great — but expensive system This system is so great, and definitely helped my baby start feeding. The only downside is that the bottle part is a bit awkward — I am smaller chested, and it seemed like it wasn’t high enough. I usually held it with one hand about my shoulder so it wasn’t so in the way. It’s also insanely expensive for what it is! I can’y believe plastic tubing can cost so much.Ultimately, I’m glad I spent the money, because this really taught my baby to eat from me — when he sucked…
Cheap So this has quite literally saved our breastfeeding relationship and has been a godsend. We use it daily and have gotten the hang of latching baby to breast with tube attached and not over tightening the lid so that it doesnât leak. However- we have had to contact Medela customer service already several times for leaking pieces, broken pieces and now a melted bottle despite following the sterilizing instructions to a T. Itâs aggravating. You canât buy replacements for just the parts you need…
