Featuring a low-profile, contemporary design, the First Alert PR700 Slim Battery-Operated Photoelectric Smoke Alarm provides the same protection as a standard smoke alarm while taking up only a fraction of the space. This slim smoke alarm uses an ultra-reliable photoelectric sensor to detect smoke from slow-burning, smoldering fires and features a patented smoke entry system that allows a direct path to the sensor for more reliable detection. The battery-operated smoke alarm requires no hardwiring for installation. The simple twist-lock mounting system installs easily onto a wall or ceiling, while the tamper-resistant locks help prevent removal of the battery to keep the alarm secure. A loud 85-decibel alarm sounds when smoke is detected, and a convenient test/silence button lets you easily check alarm function and mute false alarms.
Is there any reliable smoke detector out there? I bought a bunch of these after reading reviews for many detectors. There doesn’t seem to be a detector out there without complaints that they don’t work. Sure enough, these sound an alarm periodically and then stop on their own. I have no idea if they actually work. The fact that they randomly alarm and then stop without explanation make me nervous. I’d replace them, but since every detector has bad reviews, I don’t know what to replace them with.Updated Nov 2015: Continuing…

I had to take it down in the middle of the night just so my teenage daughter could get some sleep for school. I’ll contact the manufacturer for assistance but if you’re considering…
Easy to install, insanely hard to turn off. Installation was simple, the mounting bracket had plenty of spaces to match previous fire alarm mounts and the unit attached fairly easily to the mount. That’s where the positives end. like most people, I need a smoke detector that is reliable, and not easily set off by cooking bacon… this not that detector. Not only did all the detectors go off the first time we fried up some bacon, we also learned how insanely hard it is to turn these off. The “silence” button does not…
