Designed by a scientist and mother of two preschoolers, GeoSafari Jr. My First Microscope allows kids to see magnified hidden worlds with ease! This fully functional microscope is a real tool with a range of magnification (2.5x–8x) designed with a preschooler in mind. Magnified views can be challenging for little ones to understand, so by starting with the 2.5x view (with the focusing knob turned as far away from your child as it will go), your preschooler can orient herself to the item she’s viewing, and as she turns the focusing knob towards herself, she can gradually pull away to an 8x view. The wide field of view of these lower magnifications is critical to little ones’ understanding. My First Microscope also features two extra-large eyepieces (no need to close one eye!) and a chunky, kid-sized focusing knob. A bright LED with easy push-button action lights up details for even more discoveries. Requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).
great simple microscope for young children. Because I graduated with a B.S. in Medical Technology, I wanted my daughters to be exposed to science. I’ve always marveled at the things I saw under the microscope when I was studying which includes different kinds of cells, parasites, sediments and microorganisms from different kinds of body fluids.
very light weight and gets knocked around easily. I would say this is great for a … My son (five at the time of gifting) was excited about this, but it quickly faded. It really doesn’t zoom in enough for him to see the kinds of details he is looking for. I wish it came with slide-like dishes to fill with dirt or sand. It just doesn’t have the lasting play/excitement I was hoping for. Its also very, very light weight and gets knocked around easily. I would say this is great for a toddler, not so much an older child.
So cute for the little kids! I originally bought this microscope for my 5-year-old son for Christmas. After inspection I realized it was WAY too juvenile for him. You can’t view slides with this microscope. I didn’t pay close attention while reading the information about this microscope. So I kept this to give to my 2.5-year-old son and I bought another one for my older boy that uses slides. It’s PERFECT! Now they both get a microscope that is suitable for their ages. I can not wait for them to open these on Christmas…
