It acts as a stand-alone potty with a plastic removable insert for quick and easy cleaning. Stage two is for 2 years and older. The toilet ring detaches from the stool and is placed on your toilet; remove panel from bottom and flip to fit on top to make a foot stool. The seat is a soft cushion to ensure comfort and the bottom is then utilized for a secure foot stool. Stage three is for older toddlers and the unit can be used for a sturdy step stool. Buyer beware, probably used and sold as if new Box is in terrible shape and clearly previously opened with multiple tears and damage. Potty seat has scratches and obvious disinfectant wipe marks (this is my second child, I know what it looks like when you wipe matte plastic with a Lysol wipe, it leaves a residue). Smelled weird. Bag inside was open, instruction paper was crumpled and looked to have been handled.I am very unhappy about the quality upon arrival. Also, this is much bigger than I expected. Shipping was fast.
